The first men’s roller derby World Cup took place in Birmingham in the spring of 2014. Finland came out 9th out of 15 national teams. Since then men’s roller derby has been increasing its popularity and in the next World Cup the opposition will be considerably tougher and coming from more teams. This requires a professional approach, and a serious thrive towards the ultimate goal from all the team members. Players have to be able to commit on a longer term – the national team sent to Calgary in 2016 must represent the best of men’s roller derby in Finland.
The Men’s Roller Derby World Cup is scheduled for 21-24 July, 2016 in Calgary, Canada and we are excited to announce that the skater application for the Finnish national team is now officially open!
Requirements for skaters:
-Be at least 18 years old.
-Be male as per the MRDA gender policy.
-Have quad roller skating experience.
-Have knowledge of the MRDA roller derby rules.
-Be able to commit to travel to the tournament and cover your own travel expenses.
-Commit to team practices.
You also must meet one of the following nationality criteria:
(a) Born in Finland OR
(b) At least one parent or grandparent has a Finnish nationality OR
(c) Acquired a Finnish nationality by marriage or naturalization OR
(d) Resided in Finland continuously for five years immediately prior to the tournament.

Every applicant seen fit to take part in Team Finland practices will be invited to participate. The final roster of 25 skaters will be selected in November 2015 to compete in the World Cup. The roster will be selected by head coaches Menstruella and Aki Saari and the rest of the coaching team.
